Daily Guide Devotional For Today 23rd October 2024 (Wednesday)

TOPIC: EVANGELISM AND FOLLOW-UP

OPENING PRAYER: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.

SCRIPTURE: 1 THESSALONIANS 1:1-10

Question(s) for Reflection
* Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

INTRODUCTION TO 1 THESSALONIANS
Thessalonica was the capital city of the Province of Macedonia in the Roman empire. Paul, Timothy, and Silas were the first evangelists to take the gospel to them. It was a difficult time and they had to leave the city in a hurry after only a few weeks (Acts I7:1-9; I Thessalonians 2:2). Unable to return there himself, Paul sent Timothy to check on the welfare Sabbaths in the local synagogue, as a result of which many Jews and Greeks were saved (Acts r7:4).

Scripture Union Daily Guide 23 October 2024 Outline

Troublemakers from among those who did not believe caused a riot which led to Paul having to make a hasty departure to Berea by night (Acts rz:1o). God did prosper the seed that was sown, and a church had been planted. We do not know how much tme Paul had to nurture the faith of these new believers before he fled but one of the lessons he taught them was to expect persecution (3:3-4). Paul wanted to go back to visit them, but he could not, and so he sent Timothy to encourage them (2:18; 3:2). This letter was written as a follow up after that.

Practice/Word Application
For reflection: What do these expressions in v.3 mean in your own life: “work produced by faith, your labour prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope”?

* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Ask God for grace to remain committed to your calling and endure to the end.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Hebrews 13:20 – 21
20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Scripture understand the importance of prayers again and return to watch and pray.
â–º Ask for grace and enablement to pray indeed at all times.
â–º Against the ideology that prayers is meant for Prayer Band alone, thereby brushing away prayerfulness among Us.
